ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP

The change from modernity to late modernity has involved a shift from an inclusive to an exclusive society (Young 1999) with this, the need for Active Citizenship is needed evermore thus playing a fundamental role within a harmonious community by encouraging people to become active within their community we are giving them a role within the community whilst providing more opportunities and enhancing self-belief. Active citizenship is all about taking an active positive role within the community of Starley Cross and making a contribution to society. These activities could include volunteering within community organisations and though engagement with local and national politics. The encouragement and support provided for young people in particular has been recognised as a policy priority across the UK (National lottery fund n.d.)
