HOUSING LAYOUT

Within the high crime areas many problems with housing layout and building structures can be identified. Firstly there is an issue with the lack of security. Frykman Terrace and Kray Street are a great example of this. The gardens of these houses are connected via an alley. The alley has no surveillance or lighting and the placement of the houses is so close together, it means that it would be easy to both break into and escape from the houses in this area.

There is also a clear divide between the affluent and poor areas with Starley Green Park forming a symbolic boundary between the two. Acting as a barrier between areas that are seen as safe and unsafe for residents to go to.
